Koh Lipeh (Lipeh Island) is also well known as “Maldives of Thailand” Lipeh is a small island in the Southern Thai province of Satun, and is situated in the Andaman Sea. The island is part of the Tarutao National Marine Park, a large group of over 70 islands. Lipeh is part of a smaller cluster of 10 islands, about 70 kilometres off shore. All of the
islands can be visited on day trips, and the largest island in the group, Koh Adang, has bungalows ran by the National Park Authority. The name "Koh Lipeh" means paper Island in the local Chao Ley (or Urak Lawoi or Sea Gypsy) language.

There are 3 main beaches on Koh Lipeh: Pattaya Beach, Sunset Beach and Sunrise Beach. The first one is the most popular and has a wide variety of places to stay, drink and eat. Sunrise Beach has quite a few resorts as well as a small Chao Ley (Sea Gypsies) Village with some basic shops and small eateries. Sunset beach is the smallest beach and has only has a couple of places to stay. 

Popular activities on Koh Lipeh are snorkeling, diving and canoeing. There is good snorkeling straight off the beaches, but the best spots can be seen on the popular day trips that visit a few locations in a day, combined with a pick nick on a beautiful beach. There are several dive shops, and many resorts rent out snorkel gear and can arrange boat trips. The Idyllic Concept Resort also arrange daily snorkeling trips, diving, fishing and canoeing.

Important information:

ATM/Bank on Koh Lipeh: There is no ATM machine and Bank. The only way to get cash money on Koh Lipeh is a cash advance on your credit card (charge 5 to 10% of this service). Bring enough cash money (Thai Baht) to sustain your stay, in fact, bring a bit more, your plans might change, you might stay longer.

Doctor/Hospital on Koh Lipeh: There is a small clinic by government but there usually is no doctor on Koh Lipeh. The clinic is located in the village, next to the school. There is a nurse that speaks some English and some very basic first aid medicine.

Water & Electricity: Koh Lipeh does not have a public electricity network every place uses generators to produce their own. Some places have electricity 24 hours a day but most turn it of early in the morning (06.00-09.00 hrs.) and turn it back on again around 17.00 – 18.00 hrs.

Mobile Phone Signal & Internet Access: There are 2 mobile local phone operator signals on Koh Lipeh: Dtac (Dtac - Happy D Prompt) and AIS (AIS and 1-2-Call). Both provide roaming service for foreign mobile phones. Both systems tend to be “overloaded” once and whiles so don’t panic if you loose reception for a few hours. Internet is available in several places and The Idyllic Concept Resort provides a Wi-Fi system hen you bring your own laptop. A satellite signal is used to connect to the Internet and these results in a higher price.

Border Crossing to Malaysia from Koh Lipeh: Thai Immigration works together with the ferries to Langkawi Island (Malaysia). It is possible to do an overnight trip to Langkawi Island in order to get a new 30 or 60-day visa for Thailand (depending on the visa you enter Thailand with). Travelers coming from Langkawi Island can enter Thailand by taking the ferry to Koh Lipeh. You will be taken trough the immigration process.
